Experience Our Summer Theatre Programs at Music Theatre of Connecticut
Summer is a magical time at the Music Theatre of Connecticut! It’s a place where imagination takes center stage, friendships form, and young performers dive into the joy of storytelling through musical theatre. Whether your child is stepping onto the stage for the first time or looking to deepen their performance experience, our summer offerings provide a vibrant and creative community in the heart of Norwalk, CT.
What Makes Our Summer Theatre Programs Special
At Music Theatre of Connecticut, the summer season brings a blend of learning, collaboration, and fun. Our programs are built on the same foundation of theatre arts training that defines our School of Performing Arts. Our goal is to provide an environment where students cultivate confidence, creativity, and stage skills in a supportive and joyful setting. From engaging half-day workshops to immersive multi-day projects, each experience is designed to spark curiosity, celebrate each participant’s unique voice, and create memories that last long after the final bow.
One-Week Workshops: A Broadway-Style Snapshot
Our one-week summer workshops are perfect for elementary and middle school students who are eager to explore theatre in a fun and focused format. These sessions offer both half-day and full-day options, providing flexibility for families while giving young performers a taste of the rehearsal-to-performance process.
During each week, students work together to learn and rehearse an abridged Broadway-style “show of the week.” At the end of the session, they’ll share what they’ve created in a lively performance, which is a rewarding moment that builds confidence and highlights all they’ve learned. Half-day workshops focus on the show itself, while full-day options include additional activities such as acting games, singing exercises, movement explorations, and improvisation designed to deepen theatre skills and keep the fun going throughout the day.
Two-Week Intensive: Dive Deeper into Performance
For older students or those looking for a more immersive experience, our two-week summer production program brings the thrill of a full-length musical to life. In this option, participants rehearse and prepare a 1.5-hour musical production, complete with staging, character development, and performance opportunities, all in a collaborative ensemble setting.
Students benefit from master classes and technique sessions that explore audition prep, vocal performance, character work, and more. By the final performance, every student has contributed to something truly special. It’s a celebration of teamwork, resilience, and artistic expression.
The Community & Environment That Sets Us Apart
At our core, Music Theatre of Connecticut is grounded in a strong tradition of professional theatre and education. Founded in 1987, and proudly serving Norwalk, CT; Westport, CT; and the surrounding communities, MTC produces an annual slate of MainStage productions featuring New York and local professional artists, as well as offering a conservatory-style School of Performing Arts for students from age four through high school.
Our summer programs are a continuation of that legacy. We provide a space where young artists are seen, supported, and encouraged. Whether your child is developing stage confidence, making new friends, or discovering a passion for performance, the sense of community at MTC is one of the things parents and students often cite as the most meaningful part of the experience.
