Policies

Registration

Only students who have registered and paid the appropriate fees, made payment arrangements or are on financial aid/scholarship may participate in MTC classes or performances. All class, private lesson, and production fees are due by the beginning of each term. Registrations may done entirely online or over the phone. In addition to tuition and production fees, there is an annual registration fee of $35 (September-August).

Payment

Full tuition payment plus registration fee is due at the time of registration unless prior arrangement with MTC has been made for payment plan. MTC accepts cash, checks or all major credit cards. A $30 fee will be assessed on all returned checks. No class slot will be held for a student without completed/signed registration form and up-to-date tuition. Payment plans are available, call the office for details.

In Person and Virtual Programs

At any time MTC may change a program to become virtual from in person or from in person to virtual. A change from in person to virtual will only be made if the safety of our students and staff are compromised and/or if the state mandates that we do so. A change from virtual to in person will only be made if we feel that the program would be better suited for an in person setting or, if in the case of a viral infection, that the safety of our students and staff are no longer compromised. Under no circumstances will MTC refund tuition if a program changes from in person to virtual or from virtual to in person.

Refunds

FALL/SPRING TERMS
Classes and private lessons are considered to be on a full term basis. Enrolled students withdrawing prior to two weeks before the first class will receive 50% refund of semester tuition. No refunds will be issued later than two weeks before the first class. Registration fees and service charges are not refundable.

SUMMER PROGRAMS
Full tuition must be paid in advance. $200 is non-refundable and there are no refunds after April 1st.

Scholarship Subsidies

Scholarships are available to qualified students on the basis of financial need and availability. An application form and proof of income (via previous year’s federal income tax return) are required. All applications are reviewed annually by the MTC Scholarship Committee. Students may apply for scholarships for classes, productions and summer programs. Awarded scholarships cover up to a maximum of 50% of tuition. Deadline for academic year scholarship applications is September 30. Deadline for Summer scholarships is March 1. There are no scholarships for private lessons. Applications are available in the MTC office or click here

Make-Up Classes and Lessons

Classes
A make-up class will only be held if a class was cancelled due to teacher unavailability or inclement weather. A make-up will be scheduled for the week following the final week of classes or, in the event a class cannot be added on to the end of the term, a time based on the teacher’s availability. Students cannot make-up their class in another section of the same class. If less than 3 students show up for a class then that class will be cancelled with no make-up.

Voice/Piano Lessons
There is ONE private lesson make-up provided per term, no matter how many lessons have been missed. The day and time is determined by the teacher’s availability. Make-up lessons canceled or missed by a student will be considered made up. A second chance for a make-up lesson is determined solely by the teacher.
However, any and every lesson canceled due to inclement weather or teacher unavailability will be made up at the end of the term or -based on the teacher’s availability- during the semester at a mutually-agreed upon time.

Trial Classes

MTC offers ONE Trial Class per student. A Trial Class may be attended so long as the class is not full. After trialing a class, the parent has twenty-four hours to register their child or the space will be forfeited. Other than these twenty-four hours, a slot will NEVER be held for a Trial Class student. If a student is registered for a class they have trialed then the parent must pay for the Trial Class as well as all future classes, plus the $35 annual registration fee (if this applies). A student who is registered for the class after a Trial Class gets ONE additional Trial Class that can be used in the future. A student who does not register for the class after a Trial Class gets no additional Trial Classes.

Student Absences

Students are expected to attend all classes and lessons regularly and punctually, and are expected to notify MTC if they must miss a class or lesson at least twenty-four hours in advance. If a student misses two consecutive classes and has not contacted MTC, the instructor will contact the parent. Three unexcused absences are grounds for termination with no refund or credit. Students must pay for all classes or lessons whether taken or missed.

Musicals and Performance Classes

Once a student has auditioned for a musical or performance class and tuition has been paid, should the student drop out, there will be no refund or credit. If a student drops out after the rehearsal process has begun, the student will not be eligible to audition for another MTC musical or performance class for one year. All shows titles are subject to change.
