History
Music Theatre of Connecticut is Fairfield Countys
most complete resource and the only organization of
its kind in Connecticut, providing arts education
and professional musical theatre all under one roof.
Founded in 1987 by Artistic Director Kevin Connors
and General Director Jim Schilling (who still serve
in these positions), MTC is a non-profit organization
and a Certified Member of the National Guild of Community
Schools of the Artsthe first theatre school
in the country to be accepted for membership in this
esteemed organization. |

Mission
Music Theatre of Connecticut (MTC) is a not-for-profit
501 (c)3 arts organization governed by a volunteer
Board of Directors, whose mission is to develop and
present the art of musical theatre through professional
and educational programming for the greater Fairfield
County and
Westchester communities. We provide as many opportunities
as possible to link our professional and educational
programming divisions including our conservatory-style
School of Performing Arts (on-going sequential performing
arts curriculum, student productions and student summer
theatre), professional Equity MainStage theatre and
Outreach programming (partnership programs with area
schools and colleges). |

School
MTCs School of Performing Arts trains over 500
students/season and more than 4,000 people attend
the seven full-scale musical productions each year.
MTC students have presented more than 200 productions
including The Music Man, Once on this Island, Oliver!,
Fiddler on the Roof, Working, The Wiz, Guys and Dolls
and Funny Girl. Alumni of MTCs College Prep
Division have graduated or are currently pursuing
performing arts degrees in top-tier programs including
those at the University of Michigan, Boston Conservatory,
Syracuse University, NYU, Northwestern
University, Carnegie-Mellon University and Emerson
College; others can be seen on Broadway, in regional
theatres throughout the country, on television and
in feature films. |
